ABOUT US

The IRIAO Journey: Established in 2013, IRIAO is a Tbilisi-based ethno-jazz band dedicated to the art of synthesis. We blend the rich, complex textures of Georgian polyphony — a UNESCO - recognised world heritage — with the vibrant colours of jazz-fusion. We don't just "modernize" tradition; we celebrate it, adorning ancient harmonies with a fresh, contemporary heartbeat.
Vision: Our sound is shaped by our leader, David Malazonia. As a pioneer in genre-blending, he brings decades of experience in both folk and jazz, ensuring that every composition honours the soul of the tradition while exploring new musical territories. From Guria to the World The name IRIAO echoes the sounds of Krimanchuli, a traditional yodelling style from Western Georgia. This local inspiration has taken us to prestigious international stages: Asia: Java Jazz (Indonesia) & Borneo Jazz (Malaysia); Europe: Alfa Jazz (Ukraine) & Eurovision (Portugal); Regional: Baku Summer Jazz Days (Azerbaijan)
